Medicare Essentials for HR Professionals: Strategy, Compliance, and Support

HR professionals are often the first point of contact when employees approach Medicare eligibility, retirement, or coverage transitions, yet the complexity of Medicare makes it unrealistic to develop deep technical expertise. This session provides a practical, high‑level understanding of how Medicare intersects with employer-sponsored health plans, workforce planning, and total rewards strategy. Through real‑world examples, you’ll explore common risks and costly mistakes, including enrollment issues and coordination of benefits challenges, and their impact on both employee experience and organizational cost. The program emphasizes a strategic, partnership‑based approach, equipping you to identify key decision points, reduce risk, and support employees confidently without taking on unnecessary administrative burden.

Learning Objectives - as a result of this program, attendees will be able to:
  1. Identify key points where Medicare intersects with employer-sponsored health plans and the employee lifecycle to support informed benefits decisions.
  2. Recognize common Medicare-related risks and costly mistakes that can impact employees and increase organizational healthcare expenses.
  3. Differentiate between appropriate HR guidance and situations requiring referral to qualified Medicare professionals.
  4. Apply partnership-based strategies to support employee Medicare transitions while reducing administrative burden and employer health plan costs.
  5. Strengthen employee communication and trust by implementing compliant, structured Medicare education and referral practices.
